UFPE's institutional repository was implemented in 2014 with the mission to stock, store, spread and ensure permanent access to the scientific contents produced at our University in a digital platform. The repository was institutionalized in 2017 by UFPE's Administrative Council.
In 2019, the platform was given a new name: ATTENA. The reason for the construction of a new identity was mainly to strengthen the institutional repository's concept among the academic community and also between the external audiences. ATTENA is part of a process of democratization of the academic production. It aims towards a dissemination of the academic and scientific production, making them more accessible.
Its visual identity was also redefined. The logo's composition is a reference to the concepts of dissemination of the information. The central circle represents a place that concentrates many kinds of information. The smaller dots that orbit around the center represent the information being expelled by the main circle.
ATTENA is part of the Open Access Movement, a worldwide initiative that supports that the access to scientific productions must be facilitated. This management model for electronic documents makes these contents available for the society, giving more visibility to the results that the researchers achieved in their activities of investigation, creation and innovation.
