dc.description.abstractO objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a importância do sorriso na autoestima de adolescentes. Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura, com busca de artigos científicos publicados em português, inglês e espanhol foi realizada nos portais PubMed (Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina dos Estados Unidos) e Lilacs - BVS (Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde), abrangendo um período de 5 anos, utilizando-se o formulário de pesquisa avançada e os termos de busca: self concept, body image, self esteem, adolescent,e sthetics dental. Os termos de busca foram utilizados como descritores, palavras do título/resumo ou assunto. Na busca realizada nos bancos de dados dos portais BVS e PubMed foram identificados 46 artigos. Em seguida, por apresentarem um ou mais critérios de exclusão, 38 artigos foram excluídos após a leitura dos resumos. Assim, 7 artigos foram incluídos na presente pesquisa, e foram observadas que questões como maloclusão e hipodontia afetem diretamente na questão da autoestima de adolescentes. Assim,conclui-se que o sorriso afeta diretamente na autoestima de adolescentes.pt_BR

dc.description.abstractxIn view of the influence that a smile can have on the self-esteem of individuals and on the development of the perception of this self-esteem in adolescents, it should be noted that when there is a dental alteration, it draws attention due to its negative aesthetic aspect, which can affect the social and self-esteem aspects of adolescents, causing lifelong problems. The aim of this study was to assess the importance of the smile in the self-esteem of adolescents. An integrative literature review was carried out, searching for scientific articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish on the PubMed (US National Library of Medicine) and Lilacs - BVS (Virtual Health Library) portals, covering a period of 5 years, using the advanced search form and the search terms: self concept, body image, self esteem, adolescent, and dental aesthetics. The search terms were used as descriptors, words in the title/summary or subject. In the search carried out in the BVS and PubMed databases, 46 articles were identified. After reading the abstracts, 38 articles were excluded because they met one or more of the exclusion criteria. Thus, 7 articles were included in this study, and it was observed that issues such as malocclusion and hypodontia directly affect the self-esteem of adolescents. Thus, it can be concluded that the smile directly affects the self-esteem of adolescents.pt_BR
