Resumen : This study examines the relationship between socioeconomic variables and the Food Consumption Score (FCS), a widely used proxy indicator for food security, among Brazilian households. It was based on a sample of 456 surveys collected from individuals responsible for their household food decisions. The analysis revealed that available income can have a direct influence in the dietary diversity, subsequently affecting the food security level of households, as well as age and level of education of the respondent. Gender also emerged as a significant variable, as women tended to have a higher FCS than men. These findings provide insights into the food consumption patterns within households sharing similar characteristics and can enhance specific points for a more in-depth study. The results described in this paper pertain to this specific case study and it is advised caution when generalizing these findings to another population in Brazil.
