dc.description.abstractNo presente trabalho, estudamos o comportamento do Diário de Pernambuco sobre a Revolução Cubana. O periódico é o jornal mais antigo em circulação na América Latina, e é parte da empresa Diários Associados, cujo Assis Chateaubriand é o proprietário. O leitor será levado a conhecer um pouco da história da Revolução Cubana, da Guerra Fria em Cuba e na América Latina, o perfil ideológico de Assis Chateaubriand e sua atuação política no Brasil e em Pernambuco. Este estudo também analisou as posições sobre a Revolução na Ilha que o Diário de Pernambuco tomou entre os anos 1959 a 1961, recorte temporal que compreende a tomada do poder em Cuba pelos revolucionários e a adesão ao socialismo. Ademais, este texto faz uma breve análise – a partir das publicações do Diário de Pernambuco – das relações entre a Igreja cubana e o Estado revolucionário. De caráter anticomunista, inicialmente o periódico foi favorável à Revolução, mas depois se tornou crítico ao primeiro-ministro Fidel Castro e às sucessivas medidas e ações que Cuba adotou após a vitória do Movimento Revolucionário 26 de Julho.pt_BR

dc.description.abstractxIn the present work, we study the behavior of the Diário de Pernambuco about the Cuban Revolution. The periodical is the oldest newspaper in circulation in Latin America, and is part of the company Associated Diaries (Diários Associados), whose owner Assis Chateaubriand is. The reader will be taken to know a little about the history of the Cuban Revolution, the Cold War in Cuba and Latin America, the ideological profile of Assis Chateaubriand and his political activities in Brazil and Pernambuco. This study also analyzed the positions about the Revolution on the Island that the Diário de Pernambuco took between the years 1959 to 1961, a time frame that includes the seizure of power in Cuba by the revolutionaries and the adherence to socialism. In addition, this text makes a brief analysis – based on the publications of the Diário de Pernambuco – of the relations between the Cuban Church and the revolutionary State. With an anticommunist character, the newspaper was initially favorable to the Revolution, but later became critical of Prime Minister Fidel Castro and the successive measures and actions that Cuba adopted after the victory of the 26th of July Revolutionary Movement.pt_BR
